Attentionlostypographic practice
March/2025

this project explores the inherent social barriers faced by individuals with ADHD due to their neurodevelopmental challenges in social interaction and advocates for greater societal awareness and understanding of these difficulties.

reasons:
  1. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by atypical brain development, which directly contributes to challenges in social functioning.
  2. From a neurochemical perspective, ADHD is associated with deficiencies in dopamine and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters play a critical roles in attention regulation, short-term memory, and working memory. Their insufficiency results in impaired focus difficulties with memory retention, and challenges in processing and organising information effectively.
  3. These deficits often manifest in communication difficulties, such as disorganised speech, unclear logic, and an in ability to effectively articulate thoughts or arguments. This is commonly referred to as a cognitive processing disorder, wherein the brain struggles to process and structure information cohesively. Consequently, individuals with ADHD may find it challenging to achieve desired outcomes in conversations or presentations.
  4. In social interactions, symptoms such as delayed responses, frequent loss of focus, or inattentiveness may be misinterpreted by others as signs of disinterest, disrespects, or even laziness. Such misunderstandings can hinder the ability to form and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, further isolating individuals with ADHD.
  5. Additionally, the lack of societal understanding and acceptance exacerbates psychological stress for individuals with ADHD. This limited tolerance often leads to secondary complications such as anxiety and depression. persistent negative emotions, including frustration, disappointment, and sadness, may emerge, further impacting their overall well-being.
